Finally! Apartment Rental Prices on the Upper West Side Begin to Dip

Upper West Side apartmentsOn September 30th, we reported to you on Upper West Side studio apartments for rent. Sadly, at that time, we had to report that prices had not dropped at all, even though “the season” for apartment rentals was pretty much over. We also contrasted that with the Upper East Side, where there were a number of attractively priced apartment rentals under $1800 per month.

Now, just a little more than two month’s later, we can finally see that Upper West Side studio apartment prices are beginning to crack.

Today, we feature 3 studios that are all under $2,000 per month. I hesitate to call them “bargains”, but in an area with many thousands of studio rental apartments, seeing only a handful of rentals available under $2,000 is sobering.

Why is the Upper West Side so expensive? Because it’s so livable! Its got everything you need, plus tons of culture, the finest parks, some of the greatest concerts in the world, beautiful blocks, and top restaurants.

I will continue to track apartment rental prices on the Upper West Side. In many ways, the Upper West Side is a bell-weather on the NYC economy. If the economy sours in 2014, rental prices will surely come down. If the economy strenghtens, we may soon see the last days of when an apartment was available on the Upper West Side for under $2,000 a month.
